Post Description

Tonal Ticky Tackies is a collection of semi-tonal percussion instruments programmed to play using a unique combination of sonic textures, rhythmic patterns, panning, filters, and reverb impulse responses.

Cinesamples is proud to present one of our most unique libraries to date, Tonal Ticky Tackies. It is a collection of semi-tonal percussion instruments programmed to play using a unique combination of sonic textures, rhythmic patterns, panning, filters, and reverb impulse responses.

Tonal Ticky Tackies has 20 unique sound sources each of which have 6 unique mixes, providing a wide variety of sounds. It includes 30 rhythmic patterns and over 180 reverb impulse responses. Included are 50 presets that take advantage of these tools giving you detailed control to create interesting rhythms, pads, and FX.

Also included are two built-in compressors and extensive panning and blending controls with basic L-C-R sliders as well as advanced 3-D panning.

The master patch is Tonal Ticky Tackies.nki. The individual patches folder contains all sound sources separately.

PRESETS

Each preset is a unique combination of instruments, mixes, panning, impulse responses, compression, and every other user definable setting. We set up 50 presets that include Patterns, One Shots, Pads and FX. Presets can be changed while playing. The forward and backward navigation buttons make it easy to find the sound you’re looking for without having to load a new patch. You can save your own preset as a separate patch.

PATTERNS

In the center of Settings tab, you will find a drop down menu containing 30 unique rhythmic patterns. Make sure the Pattern button is active (this can be turned “Off” in order to play One Shots).

The Pattern loops while playing notes that are connected (played simultaneously). When you play disconnected notes, the engine waits until the next beat and starts the Pattern from the beginning.

Most percussion libaries that have loops available do not support tempo changes inside of your DAW. Tonal Ticky Tackies has been programmed to handle any type of of tempo change. From Immediate jumps to delicate ramps, your pattern will stay synced.

When Patterns are enabled and your DAW transport is enabled, the engine waits until the next beat to start the Pattern in order to remain synchronized.

** We recommend when playing Patterns via midi NOT to quantize to the downbeat. When the note on information occurs on or after the downbeat it is too late for Kontakt to synchronize the Pattern to your DAW. **

SETTINGS

RANDOMIZE
The Randomize Rhythm knob controls the rhythmic accuracy of the selected Pattern. With the knob all the way to the left the rhythm is completely quantized, and all the way to the right, the rhythm is almost unrecognizable.

Similar to the Randomize Rhythm knob, the Randomize Velocity knob controls the randomization of the velocity of individual notes within the selected Pattern.

FILTER
The Filter knob is a wide bell at 10K, which attenuates the brightness of the sound.

DYNAMICS
The dynamics CC dropdown menu selects which MIDI CC is used to control the instrument’s dynamics. Velocity and Aftertouch are also available in this list.

REVERB

INSERTS
The Reverb inserts are impulse responses that affect the sound source directly (not a send). The slider controls the wet/dry ratio. When the slider below the dropdown menu is to the far left, the the effect is 100% dry. When it is set to the far right, the reverb is 100% wet. Think of an insert as a way to modify the character of the original sound source using an impulse response. The reverb type can be changed from the dropdown menu.

SENDS
Instead of controlling the wet/dry ratio, the sends reverb slider controls the amount of reverb that is combined as an additive layer with the original sound source. In this case, the original sound source remains at the same level. The only thing that changes is the amount of reverb added to it. Therefore, the only way to achieve 100% wet is by using an insert.

PANNING

PAN STYLE - NORMAL
The Normal setting located beneath the Preset menu gives you basic L-C-R panning control for each of the loaded instruments. When the Pan Style is set to Normal, two sliders appear which allow the Left and Right sound sources to be panned independently anywhere in the stereo field.

Each instrument also includes a fader allowing you to adjust the individual gain in the mix.

PAN STYLE - ADVANCED
When the Pan Style is set to Advanced, a Blend control appears. The blend control is mapped to CC#2 and controls the volume ratio of the two sound sources. When the blend control is all the way to the left, you will only hear the Left sound source, when the control is to the right, only the Right sound source is played.

ADVANCED

The Advanced tab controls the panning of the sound sources when the Pan Style is set to Advanced. The blue dot shows the perceived location of the sound sources in 3-D space. The X axis and Y axis controls are LFO’s that control the movement of this dot. The Panner Presets button provides access to 24 Advanced Panning presets.

The offset slider controls the phase of the LFO, while the scale slider controls the intensity of the LFO. The speed slider controls the frequency of the LFO. The shape dropdown menus make it possible to select different LFO types. The available types are SINE, TRIANGLE, SAW UP, SAW DOWN, and OFF. You can draw your own shapes in the LFO window by clicking and dragging. Right clicking and dragging forces straight lines. The retrigger button restarts the LFO whenever the Pattern starts from the beginning.

COMPRESSION

Inside the Compression tab you will find that we have included two different compressors.

COMP 1: Modeled after the UA 1176
COMP 2: Modeled after the SSL G Bus Compressor

Input, output, attack, release, ratio, and mix knobs are available for both compressors. When The AutoMakeup Gain button is active, changing the input knob simultaneously changes the output knob to maintain similar gain.
