The charm of the first Taken By Trees album, Open Field, had as much to do with what it left out as what it contained: Victoria Bergsman's sweet, yearning vocals were often borne on little more than slow plucks on a guitar string or taps on a piano. On her second solo album, recorded in Pakistan, flutes and Sufi chants swirl around the music without compromising its plain beauty. So gossamer is Bergsman's sound, at times her presence becomes almost transparent, as on "Wapas Karna". But she is dauntless enough to put her stamp on Animal Collective's magnificent "My Girls", reinterpreting it very nicely as "My Boys". A simple pleasure.
