Amazing fourth album from shop favourites the boy least likely to, and this time they return brighter and shinier than ever before with eleven classic pop songs about falling in love, fear of death and loneliness. influenced as much by the human league, early depeche mode and giorgio moroder as by the indie pop bands that shaped the sound of their previous albums. the sunny west coast harmonies and post punk playfulness remain, only this time analog synthesizers and drum machines take the place of the banjos, fiddles and glockenspiels. the songs are even more heartfelt and uplifting than before, tied as always to their unique and sweetly eccentric lyrics, and even include a lovelorn synth pop duet with gwenno from the pipettes. 'The Great Perhaps' is a triumph. the sound of a band growing up and falling in love with pop music again.
