Gary Barlow (Frodsham (Cheshire), 20 januari 1971) is een Engelse zanger, songwriter, bandleader en producent.

Al in zijn jeugd was hij bezig met muziek. Zijn lang verwachte droom ging in vervulling toen hij als jong jongetje eindelijk een keyboard voor Kerstmis kreeg. Hij heeft zichzelf keyboard leren spelen en hij zegt dat Elton John hem daarbij inspireerde.

Op zijn vijftiende deed hij mee aan de BBC Pebble Mill At One een Kerstmis zangcompetitie. Hij bereikte de halve finale en mocht in London’s West Heath Studios zijn liedje opnemen. Dit zorgde ervoor dat hij ging optreden in clubs. Barry Woolley werd in 1989 zijn manager en hij nam de niet uitgebrachte single Love Is In The Air op. 

Hij kwam in contact met Nigel Martin-Smith door de beroemde fotograaf Doc Braham die zijn eerste professionele foto’s schoot. Nigel was van plan om een boyband te gaan oprichten. Hij besloot om Barlow aan te stellen als hoofdzanger, omdat hij onder de indruk was van zijn zelfgeschreven materiaal, waaronder een demo van het nummer A Million Love Songs.

In 1990 deed de boyband Take That zijn intrede, bestaande uit Gary Barlow, Mark Owen, Jason Orange, Howard Donald en Robbie Williams. Barlow schreef de meerderheid van de liedjes en wordt daarom ook gezien als het muzikale talent achter Take That. In 1996 ging de band uit elkaar.

Barlow ging solo verder en niet onverdienstelijk, want hij verkocht ruim 5 miljoen albums. Maar het grote succes dat hij met Take That had kon hij solo niet evenaren.

In 2005 maakte Take That zijn comeback zonder Robbie Williams.

In 2010 nam Barlow samen met Williams de single Shame op. Zij schreven samen aan het nummer nadat ze hun ruzie hadden bijgelegd. Het werd een groot succes. Vanaf dat moment treedt Williams af en toe weer op met de band.  In 2014 besluit Jason Orange de band te verlaten.

Tussen alle praktijken van Take That door is Barlow ook actief als songwriter voor vele andere muzikanten, waaronder Shirley Bassey en Charlotte Church. Hij houdt zich tevens veel bezig met veel liefdadigheidswerk. Ook was hij te zien in het televisieprogramma The X Factor als jurylid. In 2013 heeft hij meegeschreven aan de musical Finding Neverland. Een grote droom die voor hem daarmee uitkwam.
