Mercury Living Presence Boxed Set CD35 van55.
The recording was made 10/1957 CD transfer 1992. The sound is crisp clean and clear. This is only one of the many recordings Marcel Dupre' made in his 85 years. The organ was built by Ernest M. Skinner Organ Co. In 1913 at the St. Thomas Church,New York City.
Marcel Dupré, French organist of the beginning of the 20th century was well known in the United States because of his frequent trips in America. The repertoire is far from an eclectic one : only classics from Franck's three Chorals and C.M.Widor, Allegro. The highlight of this Cd is certainly the Salve Regima, from Widor. Bright and meditative at the same time, this piece is to my point, the climax of the Cd. Recording is great.
