Jean-Philippe Goude biography
Bio for Jean-Philippe GOUDE taken from the liner notes of his Drones album:

Jean-Philippe GOUDE came into the world in Paris on July 27th 1952. In spite of a most favorable family context-his mother being a violinist and his father happily devoting himself to the piano-it wasn't until the age of ten that Jean-Philippe discovered piano playing, when he started his classical music studies. Two years later, however, he was forced to abandon his instrument, after moving house. After another two years had passed, GOUDE started to practice by himself. He soon lost interest in classics and began to play with blues rock bands, before going back to classical music, and then discovering the jazz scene at the American Culture Centre in Paris. At the beginning of the 1970's, whilst starting musicology studies at the University of Paris, GOUDE discovered the minimalist classical music movement through the work of it's main exponents: Philip GLASS and Terry RILEY. This gave Jean-Philippe insight into unexpected perspectives, and encouraged him to work with greater diligence. To that end, he enrolled at the Pantin Academy of Music, where he studied harmony, counterpoint, musical analysis and orchestration under the direction of Irene JARSKY.

Parallel to these activities, Jean-Philippe was able to develop his talents as a composer within a group called MADAME BERTRAND, an outfit which was eventually reduced to a duo of Oliver Cole on percussion and GOUDE on keyboards, helped out by electronics wizard Fracois GINGLE, who modified his synthesizers in order to obtain the weirdest sound. Under this formula, Jean-Philippe released his first album, called Jeunes Annees in 1975, a record for which he had written all compositions. Nonetheless, the release of the album resulted in the disbanding of MADAM BERTRAND. A few months later, strongly recommended by ZAO's drummer Jean-My truong, Jean-Philippe joined Bernard Paganotti's legendary MAGMA spinoff band WEIDORJE, in which he shared keyboard duties with Patrick Gauthier. GOUDE felt tired of the many setbacks, due to the fact that the band couldn't live on it's music alone; Jean-Philippe left the band in favor of more studio work. 

During his stay with WEIDORJE, Jean-Philippe had made friends with Alain Ranval, the home guitarist of the Ramses studio(they had met when the band was recording a demo at this renowned studio). Afterwards, Ranval asked Goude to write arrangements for the debut album of ORDEURS, the beginning of a successful collaboration with the Ramses team; Jean-Philippe, in turn, resorted to the studio when he made plans to record a second solo album under his name, after WEIDORJE had disbanded. That album Drones was recorded in 1979, featuring the most impressive bunch of musicians one could imagine. The music on Drones derived from pieces rearranged from two other albums, Sur Un Air De Gymnastique and Meli-Melodies, produced by Danielle Tirot-Martin for the French gymnastic federation. Both records were private releases dedicated to the members of the clubs of the federation. The Drones album was recorded as WEIDORJE was winding down, and as such features most of the lineup of that band on several tracks, as well as members of HELDON and other outstanding French musicians of the day. The guest list for the recordings are an impressive gathering of some of the biggest names in late 70's underground French rock-there are no less than 27 guests contributing to the musical compositions.
After the Drones release Jean-Philippe would work with the singer Renaud for five albums as an arranger and artistic director. He then made his debut as a film soundtrack composer not to mention his extensive work in the field of music for advertising. This lasted until around 1986 which allowed him to make a living then from the mid-eighties on he worked alone in sound illustration exclusively, apart from a collaboration with Maurice Dugowson on three new soundtracks. He became composer in 1987 working under his own name on a new album which was eventually released in 1992 as De Anima.
