De Sovjet-Unie in het jaar 1983. De ruimtevaarder Konstantin is de enige overlevende van een ruimtemissie. Hij keert terug naar de aarde, maar brengt hierdoor een buitenaards wezen mee dat zich in zijn lichaam heeft genesteld. Hij komt in het geheime laboratorium van de neurofysiologe Tatyana terecht.
