Post Description
Originally formed as a gospel quartet in the 1950s, THE ISLEY BROTHERS went on to massive success in a decades-spanning career which has seen them produce music in genres from doo-wop to R&B, funk, soul and rock. Reaching their third decade as a musical act in the 1970s, The Isley Brothers continued to reinvent themselves with line-up changes and new sounds ranging from 1973's hit rock anthem Summer Breeze to the socially-conscious soul and funk of their mid-70s albums.
GO FOR YOUR GUNS, released in 1977, reached #1 on the R&B album charts and #6 on the Pop charts and has gone on to become many fans' favourite Isley Brothers album. First single THE PRIDE (PART 1) topped the R&B singles chart and was followed by the funk rock of LIVIN' IN THE LIFE, which reached the Top 5 on the R&B chart and also the US Pop Top 40. However, the album's true lasting classics are the oft-sampled FOOTSTEPS IN THE DARK (which became the basis for ICE CUBE's IT WAS A GOOD DAY) and VOYAGE TO ATLANTIS, which although only a small R&B hit at the time, later became a Quiet Storm radio classic and a staple of the band's live shows.
