Arditti Quartet - Elliot Carter: String Quartets 1-4; Elegy

One of the most significant post-World War II American composers, Elliott Carter remains a forceful and eloquent voice into his tenth decade. From an early, quasi-neo-Classical style, Carter has forged his own complex, dramatically oriented adaptation of serial methods. 

As of 2009, the Arditti Quartet had released over 180 CDs. The major collections are found on the French label, Auvidis Montaigne, which numbers over 40 discs. These include important historical works from composers such as those of the Second Viennese School (Schoenberg, Berg, Webern), the collected works of prominent composers such as Carter, Pascal Dusapin, Ferneyhough, Toshio Hosokawa, Kagel, and Xenakis, and sets of pieces from different countries and regions, including Germany, Italy, Scandinavia, and the U.S.
