Live at North Star 2009 and was recorded at a club/restaurant in Pound Ridge NY called the North Star. We’d been playing there steadily for two years to really good crowds, and one of the owners, Phil Maniatty, is also a recording engineer. We’d begun work on a studio album with him, but we decided it would be faster to get a live album out. So he recorded us live on five different occasions, and we picked or favorite stuff for the record. The musicians on the CD along with me are Mike Dimeo (keys., voc.), Dennis Metzler (bass) and Vito Luizzi and Richard Rosch (drums; Vito is on 6 tracks and Rich is on 2). There are two original songs on the record--”Right By Your Side” and “Do You Have a Sister” and they both combine an R&B vibe with a harder-rocking style. Overall, the band plays with great improvisational interaction, which is showcased very well throughout all of the tracks.

Favorite Guitars

I only used one guitar on the album, my old 1961 all-original Stratocaster that I bought when I was 17. It’s a great sounding guitar that has been all over the world with me, and has been played by everyone from BB King to Stevie Ray Vaughan, Johnny Winter, Buddy Guy and John Scofield. The amp is a 1967 “blackface” Fender Super Reverb, and in my pedal board I have a Teese RM4 wah, a TS-9, an OCD, an MXR Carbon Copy delay, a Lizard Leg Flying Dragon, and an Ultra-Vibe modulation pedal. Strings are D’Addario EXL 110s.

Musical Influences

Along with Jimi Hendrix, other favorite guitarists are Johnny Winter, Jeff Beck, Eric Clapton, Leslie West, Frank Zappa, John McLaughlin, John Scofield, Pat Martino, Pat Metheny, Mike Stern, Jimmy Bryant, Dickey Betts, Duane Allman, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Django Reinhardt, Wes Montgomery....among others! Most influential albums would include everything by Jimi Hendrix, but especially Electric Ladyland, Jeff Beck’s Truth, Beck Ola, Blow by Blow and Wired, Mahavishnu Orchestra’s Inner Mounting Flame and Birds of Fire, everything from Pat Martino but especially Desperado, Live, Consciousness, El Hombre and We’ll Be Together Again, and Wes Montgomery’s Boss Guitar,
Grooveyard and Live At The Half Note.
