Born in Brooklyn and raised on Long Island, Richie Cannata studied classical piano and clarinet. He also plays flute and keyboards in addition to tenor, alto, soprano, and baritone sax, with tenor sax being his forte. Richie Cannata was a member of Billy Joel’s band from 1975 – 1981, and has recently played on his last CD. For the last 10 years Richie has been a member of The Beach Boys, playing on their recordings as well as all of the world concert tours.
He has played on Celine Dion and Brian Wilson’s newest C.D. and has been working with Billy Joel in his classical project. Richie Cannata who charmed the fans of 1000s around the world with his famous saxophone melodies to favorite pop hits, has finally released his first solo album. Produced by Cannata himself and Julio Fernandez, this album is nothing short from spectacular. A 10 song CD, released on August 1st, recorded at the famous Cove City Sound Studios in Glen Cove, New York.
