Post Description
This soundboard recording of Johnny Cash in Austin on December 5 1994, 19 years ago today, contains 3 of my favorite songs from the Man In Black. All 3 are cover tunes and all 3 are duets with his wife, June Carter Cash. The first, Jackson, which became one of Cash’s best known tunes, was a song written by Jerry Lieber (of Stoller and Lieber fame) in 1963 and originally sung by Eddie Wheeler. The second, If I Was A Carpenter, was written by Tim Hardin and became a top ten hit for Bobby Darin in 1966. The third, It Aint Me, Babe, was a Bob Dylan tune from 1964. Casj actually asked for Dylan’s blessing before recording the tune. Johnny and June played their version of the song at the Bob Dylan 30th anniversary concert in October 1992.
