Laurent Coq was born on February 22, 1970 in Marseille. 
The last child of a family of five boys, he grew up in the Aix countryside. 
He began studying piano at the age of seven. Three years later, he was admitted 
to the National Music Conservatory of Aix-en-Provence in the class of Mademoiselle Courtin 
(who was also the teacher of Hélène Grimaud).

Over the past two decades, Laurent Coq has released 
a dozen albums as a leader and a co-leader. 
Yet, among his rich and diverse discography stands 
only one piano-bass-drums trio record so far: Spinnin' (2004).

For his expected return to the format iconic of the trio, the French pianist 
surrounds himself with a rhythmic top-flight and sign a series of original compositions 
dedicated to all those who constitute his family (kinship) music. A living tribute 
to all those who, in Paris as in New York, are beating the jazz in the Twenty-first century, 
by one of the most unusual pianists of today.
