Afsluitende film voor de serie Bomb Girls.

Closure can be elusive. Bomb Girls, a high-minded, well-intended period drama set in an Ontario munitions factory during the Second World War, calls it quits after two short seasons with a made-for-TV movie, Bomb Girls: Facing the Enemy.

It's not the ending Bomb Girls fans wanted, perhaps, but it's an ending. The core group is back, along with the actors who play them - Jodi Balfour, Ali Liebert, Anastasia Phillips and Charlotte Hegele - but the tone has darkened. It's the spring of 1943 and the Battle of the Atlantic has taken a bad turn. U-boats effectively control the North Atlantic, terrorizing supply convoys and sinking merchant ships at will. Supply lines to an increasingly isolated northern Europe are in danger of being cut off.

Against this backdrop, the workers at the hopefully named Victory Munitions have a new task: production of a new, secret line of sonar equipment, originally developed in Britain but quietly moved to Canada after U.K. factories were bombed flat.

There's a sinister hand at work, though, a saboteur on the line. Allied Intelligence recruits Gladys (Balfour) to find the culprit before it's too late, even if it means her having to spy on her closest friends, and she finds herself torn between loyalty and betrayal.

Fans who stuck with Bomb Girls from the beginning wanted more, but a fan campaign to save the show - at savebombgirls.com - like the war effort Bomb Girls worked so hard to recreate, was always going to be a tall order. Bomb Girls:

Facing the Enemy is not an ideal way to end the series, but it is an end.
