Deadly Tornadoes
Violent Windstorms, generated by Tornadoes and Hurricanes are among the most frightening of natural hazards. In this show, their fearsome power is reproduced in experiments that hurl debris at houses and put a man face to face with hurricane-speed winds. Survivors recall the terrible speed of a tornado strike, giving little time to find shelter, and storm-chaser Jeff Pietrowski relives the time he chased an EF5 tornado through the streets of Joplin, Missouri. It left a 22 mile scar of complete devastation down the middle of the city. A full-scale house is specially built to discover what happens when it faces an onslaught from high speed winds and debris, ranging from children's toys to a huge tree.
