It's that time of year again, the time when the best snow sports athletes in the world flock to Aspen, Colo. to compete in Winter X Games. From January 24 - 27, the entire snow sports world will focus their attention to the often overlooked Buttermilk Mountain, where athletes will battle for gold in a variety of different disciplines. While Winter X Games also features snowmobiling, here at OnTheSnow we will have our eye on the skiing & snowboarding events.
The action kicks off Thursday, with the Skiing SuperPipe Men's Elimination at 10:30 a.m., the Snowboard Slopestyle Men's Elimination at 1:30 p.m. and the Snowboard SuperPipe Men's Elimination at 7 p.m. On Friday, catch the Snowboard Street Round One & Final at 1 p.m., Skiing Slopestyle Men's Elimination at 1:30 p.m., Skiing SuperPipe Women's Final at 6:30 p.m., Snowboard Big Air Round One & Final at 8:30 p.m. and skiing SuperPipe Men's Final at 8:45 p.m. Saturday will feature some great finals action, the Snowboard Slopestyle Men's Final at 12 p.m., Snowboard Slopestyle Women's Final at 1:45 p.m., Skiing Big Air Round One & Final at 7 p.m. and Snowboard SuperPipe Women's Final at 7:15 p.m. The final day will feature the Skiing Slopestyle Men's Final at noon., Skiing Slopestyle Women's Final at 1:45 p.m. and the Snowboard SuperPipe Men's Final to close out the action at 7:45 p.m.
Some headlines heading into the action in Aspen include the return of Mark McMorris, the 18-year-old snowboarder who was the first to land at triple cork in a competition and the reigning Winter X Slopestyle and Big Air champion, whowill be squaring off with perennial favorite Shaun White on the Slopestyle course. Tom Wallisch (who had a HUGE 2012), Henrik Harlaut and Russ Henshaw are sure to put on a show in Men's Skiing Slopestyle while Kaya Turski, Anna Segal and Keri Herman will all compete in the Women's event. Tanner Hall will also make his return to Winter X, after a career-threatening injury in 2009, and fans will finally be able to see T-Hall getting after it in the SuperPipe once again.
