In the battle arena of World War II, few images were more formidable than that of the German military's Panzer III. As ominous as it was though, the Panzer was not indestructible - as proven by the superior might of the Soviet T-34 tank that defeated the Panzer III when Germany invaded Russia in 1941. Though it had played a key role in the Blitzkrieg victories early on, the days of the Panzer III were numbered despite its continued use as a command tank in the East and as a popular weapon in such secondary arenas as Norway until the war drew to a close.
