Amy Winehouse - St. James Church, Dingle, Ireland

Co. Kerry , Ireland
3rd December 2006
TV Series "Other Voices"
45.43 min

In December 2006 a 22 year old Amy Winehouse traveled to Dingle to record a performance and interview for seminal Irish music TV series Other Voices. This is the story of that day.

Presented by Other Voices presenter and BBC DJ Annie Mac, the programe will feature an extended interview with Amy and an intimate six-song performance at the beautiful 200 year old St. James Church in the heart of Dingle, the home of the Other Voices series since it began nine years ago. This unique film will also feature an in-depth interview with Amy, where she speaks openly about her music, her influences, her life and her future. Much of the compelling material captured here has never been seen before.

When Amy Came to Dingle is a gentle and fascinating portrait of one of musics most extraordinary talents, who passed away in July of this year. The programe steps back to a time and a place when vitality, promise and potential were Amys calling cards, before her personal troubles overtook her enormous musical achievements and tabloid headlines defined her life. Just before 9pm on December 3rd, 2006, Amy Winehouse took to the stage at St. James Church and in an emotional and personal performance she claimed the hearts of the tiny audience that packed the church to its rafters.

Immediately after her performance she left the stage a relaxed and happy Amy Winehouse, crossed the road to Benners Hotel where she spoke with the shows host, John Kelly, about her music, her influences and her plans for the immediate future. She devoured a plate of oysters from Lord Bakers next door and visited one of Dingles famous hostelries, Foxy Johns, before climbing into a taxi and driving off into the night. A four hour visit that left an indelible impression on those who were lucky enough to see her perform.
