On 'The Rhinebeck Sessions' the fusion jazz super-group Spyro Gyra tries something different - an impromptu jamming and improvised session recorded over three days in the studio. The magic is in the melodies and the grooves, combined with standout soloing, on this entertaining album.

This is Spyro Gyra's thirtieth album and they released their platinum-selling 'Morning Dance' album back in 1979, which started them on the road to becoming one of the funkiest jazz fusion bands of all-time. This time they went into the studio with very little planned to see what might come out of it.

The result is 'The Rhinebeck Sessions', a collection of mostly uptempo, often funky pieces that stand toe to toe with the best of this group's prolific output. It's not only the first album written entirely in the moment (and in the studio) but is also the band's first fully independent release since their 1977 eponymous debut.
