Post Description
The UK based three piece recorded the follow up to 2007's "61". A long time coming certainly, but they have delivered their most accomplished and complete record to date. An eclectic collection of songs - from the breathless anthem of album opener and first single "Moves Like Water" to the truly epic six minute "Empire", from the low key acoustic of "Blanket" to the distorted drive "Who Do You Love", the band mix a taut rhythm section with the inventive guitar lines and emotive vocals of Tim Brownlow. The album was recorded at Chapel Studios (Arctic Monkeys, Pearl Jam), produced by Richie Kayvan and mixed by Richie Kayvan and the legendary Tom Allom (Black Sabbath, Judas Priest). The album was mastered by Kevin Metcalfe (Paul McCartney, The Who, Spiritualized) at Sound Mastering.
Belasco's history is one of many turns and twists - The band formed in 2000 and after only their second gig they signed to hugely well respected indie label Splendid/City Slang (Lambchop, Wheat). The debut album "Simplicity" was produced by Charlie Francis (REM, Turin Breaks) and released to critical acclaim in the UK in 2001. Belasco have achieved a huge amount as stalwarts of the independent scene (despite one ill fated venture with Mercury Records in 2005!). They have sold over 30,000 records across the world to widespread critical acclaim - garnering playlists on stations as varied and influential as Germany's Motor FM, Australis Triple J and LA's KCRW network. Played gigs across the globe including European festivals such as Isle Of Wight (UK), Haldern and Bochum Total (Germany), Alive (Belgium) and Music In My Head (Holland) with the likes of PJ Harvey, Cardigans, Paul Weller, Iggy Pop, Bright Eyes and Patti Smith.
The band have released four more records through various independent labels - "Technique" in 2002, "Knowing Everyones Okay" in 2003, 2006's best of "Something Between Us" and 2007's album "61"- and recorded with the likes of Fulton Dingley (Kula Shaker, Gomez, Placebo) and the legendary Hugh Jones (Bluetones, Echo & the Bunnymen and Hope Of the States). The band had tracks added to the Hollywood film "Incubus" (starring Tara Reid) and EA Games Fifa Soccer 2007 video game. Belasco are also favourites of huge US show One Tree Hill - appearing numerous times. The Virgin/EMI compilation album Alternative Ballads II (released in Germany in early 2006) features Belasco's "Breathe" alongside songs by Blur, Athlete, Radiohead and Nick Cave.
