In 1993, what would become the first Specials reunion occurred when producer Roger Lomas decided to use the British 2 tone band as the backing band for a new album by ska legend and king of rock steady Desmond Dekker.

Originally relesased by Trojan Records, this album features the four original Specials members Neville Staple on toasting, vocals and percussion, Linval Golding on rhythm guitar and vocals, Roddy Radiation on lead guitar and Horace Panter on bass, joined in the studio by the former Selecter drummer, Charley Harrington Bembridge.  

The set opens strongly with a spirited take on ‘Sammy Dead’ and ‘Fat Man’ before continuing with a collection of other Jamaican 1960s hits from the likes of Eric Morris, Derrick Morgan, Justin Hines, Jimmy Cliff, Theo Beckford and Hopeton Lewis. The famous Specials sound brilliantly backs up Dekker’s vocals, not least on the rousing take of his own big hit ‘King of Ska’.
