The Shouting Matches is a project started by Justin Vernon (Bon Iver, Volcano Choir), Phil Cook (Megafaun) and Brian Moen (Laarks, Peter Wolf Crier) that recorded 5 tracks in 2008 (Justin decided to never release the tracks but they leaked later) and performed one show in 2010.. Justin said the show was there final show and that the group was breaking up but there name surfaced on the Coachella lineup, then Justin confrimed the group is back together on facebook hours later.
Limited CD release at The Shouting Matches' Milwaukee and Minneapolis shows in 2013. 
Bon Iver won't be performing at Coachella, but Justin Vernon will be. This time, the indie frontman and noted passive aggressive Grammy speech-giver  will be backed by a very different group. 

Completely bypassing any timid navel-gazing, bandmates Brian Moen (Peter Wolf Crier), and Phillip Cook (Megafaun) bash out bluesy, old-school rock, as Vernon gives the autotune a rest to howl in his best Otis Redding. The result is The Shouting Matches, a group that's been around and recording since 2008, but hasn't really put much out there, til now.

And how do they do? Well, Mother When's the Judgement Gonna Come has a raucus, I'm-totally-gonna-get-a-staph-infection-in-this-dive-bar feel to it, while the live I Had a Real Good Lover makes me want to lie on the floor, belting out lyrics in a whisky stupor.

Der Bon Iver-Mastermind Justin Vernon hat auf seinen Solo-Veröffentlichungen bereits mehrmals seine Liebe für den Blues durchschimmern lassen. Um diese Leidenschaft vollkommen ausleben zu können, rief er zusammen mit dem Schlagzeuger von Peter Wolf Crier und der ebenfalls aus Wisconsin stammenden Indierock-Band Laarks, Brian Moen, die Band The Shouting Matches ins Leben.

Mit Vernon an der Gitarre und Moen am Schlagzeug reihen sie sich in die Liste der Gitarrenrock-Duos von The White Stripes, The Black Keys und Two Gallants ein. Das Ergebnis ist purer, angerockter Delta-Blues. 2008 veröffentlichte das Duo die Fünf-Song-EP "Mouthoil".
