The North & South Dakotas is a vocally based folk rock group from Upstate New York. The band's sound pays homage to the spirit of old-time American music, mountain folk traditions, and the golden age of the singer-songwriter. 

 The Dakotas have shared stages with the likes of Deer Tick, Giant Panda Geurilla Dub Squad, Jamie Kent, Waylon Speed, Ryan Montbleau, Barefoot Truth, Yarn, and The Mallett Brothers Band. Debut album "Big Dipper" (recorded at Edie Road Studios and engineered by Grammy nominated Marc Fuller) is featured regularly on "The Real Alternative" 102.7 WEQX and "The Exit" 97.7 WEXT. The 10 track album features a diverse blend of country, roots rock, and folk-americana tunes. 

 Members include Zack Hay (acoustic guitar,vocals), Mark Retajczyk (guitar, vocals), Colin Hunt (bass), and Mike Graves (drums, vocals).

 Formerly known as "Headband Jack", the band continues to expand their fan base around the U.S.
