Second Movement biography
Second Movement are an obscure Symphonic Prog band that began in 1971 from Coburg, Germany, often labelled as Krautrock as a result. The music on the debut EP has a definite symphonic thread within its two songs 'Fool's Dance' and 'Rainbow'. Following this was a full album of songs that attribute to the progressive genre, "Blind Man's Mirror" with many tracks exceeding the 9 minute mark.

The music is often embellished with heavy Santana like lead breaks from Thomas Möckl, Siggi Zeidler's extended keyboard passages, and Harald Kesselhack's soft melancholic vocals. The sound is akin to Nektar, with Greg Lake vocal style, and the keys are a constant presence. Time signatures vary and the lead guitar is emotive and improvisational. Matthias Helk's drums are sporadic moving in many directions as does Manni Greiner's wandering bass, and the extended jam sessions in the songs are coupled with odd spacey synths at times and dreamy flute from Manni Bierbach.

There were only 700 copies pressed of this album, and it was followed up in 1981 by their sophomore "Movements" album that was a complete change in sound, shedding the progressive side of the music to embrace a more mainstream 80s sound. The line up also changed for this last album consisting of new members Bernd Wich on guitar, and Dieter Ungelenk on vocals.
