Op verzoek:  2 CD's van John Watts


Fischer-Z is een Engelse rockband, die eind jaren 70 en begin jaren 80 haar hoogtepunt beleefde. De groep ontstaat in de periode van de opkomst van de new wave. Fischer Z is een term uit de statistiek en is geformeerd rond componist, gitarist en zanger (en later ook dichter) John Watts. Naast John Watts speelden Steve Skolnik, Steve Liddle en Dave Graham in de band. Het debuutalbum Word salad uit 1979 is een jachtige intellectuele popplaat met reggae-invloeden. Remember russia en the worker zijn de singles van dit album. Het laatste nummer haalt slechts de 53e positie in de Britse charts, maar in Nederland wordt de leuke single een grotere hit (20e plaats). De volgende plaat, Going deaf for a living uit 1980 brengt de groep in Engeland nog steeds weinig succes, terwijl in Nederland het album behoorlijk verkoopt en met so long hun grootste Nederlandse succes wordt geboekt (12e plaats). Op dit album is Skolnik nog wel de toetsenist, maar hij vertrekt daarna omdat hij het overheersende gedrag van Watts beu is. Simon Pleth wordt zijn vervanger. Met het 3e album Red skies over paradise uit 1981 toont ook Engeland voor het eerst enige interesse, terwijl de plaat in Nederland uiterst succesvol is. Het album straalt ook enthousiasme uit en weet door een mengeling van sombere visies omtrent de westerse samenleving van de ene kant en optimisme aan de andere kant te boeien.

Ik sta open voor verzoekjes, maar reken daar een paar uur tot één week voor, soms iets langer als het er veel zijn.
Lees mijn reactie óp jouw reactie en je krijgt het te weten.

Vraag niet het onmogelijke! Iets 'nieuws' uit Piratestan, of andere bagger, want dat heb ik niet.
