Post Description
Gregg Karukas, who plays often in the L.A. area, is a talented keyboardist in the pop/jazz vein. His music is upbeat, danceable, sometimes R&B-ish, and melodic. Fortunately, he does dig in and improvise now and then, although much of the music on this Fahrenheit release sounds worked out in advance, with radio airplay (rather than a burning need to create new music) seeming to be its main goal. The most memorable selections on this set are the infectious opener "Back on the Boardwalk" (which has some fine harmonica from Dino Soldo), "Avalon" (not the swing standard), the ballad "Tomorrow We Sail" and "Barracuda Bob"...Among the supporting players are saxophonists Boney James and Eric Marienthal...Overall, the music is generally pleasant, if not very substantial... ~ Scott Yanow
