Post Description

The much anticipated Cody Johnson album Cowboy Like Me, produced by Trent Willmon, made it’s debut today, Jan. 14, on ITunes at #8, and is everything it was promised to be.
While the Nashville music scene has taken a different direction in sound, Johnson, an East Texas native from Groveton, has brought it back to the basics, delivering a powerful 13-song album of genuine country music. This album is full of rich love songs, slow dance ballads, rockin’ honky tonk rebellious fun and tear in my bear drinking songs that are reminiscent of the neotraditional country classics from artist like George Strait, Tracy Byrd, Clint Black, Tracy Lawrence, Mark Chestnut and Alan Jackson.
Cowgirls, if you haven’t already heard “Dance Her Home,” written by Johnson and Jesse Raub, Jr., and released as a single in December, you are going to love this ode to the dancehall dolls that catch a cowboy’s eye and beckon him to the dance floor. “Me And My Kind,” by Johnson, David Lee and Wynn Varble, is a great song about those girls who have given up on loving the pearl snap playboys out there after being done wrong one too many times. “Proud,” by Johnson and Dan Couch, is one of the most honest love songs ever written from a husband to his wife. And then there is “Lucky,” a song, written by Ben Hayslip and Trent Willmon, about the good fortune of a man having pretty lil’ thing in his life.
With “Baby’s Blue,” Johnson and Joel Shewmake, capture the essence of a man’s love for a woman and his willingness to do anything to keep the blues away. “Bottle It Up,” by Johnson, Willmon and Dan Couch’s is a catchy tune about wishing there was a way to bottle up the best things in life. Johnson and David Lee’s “Cowboy Like Me” is a beautiful ballad about the cowboys who are chasing their dreams and the women who love them.
Everybody whose had a bad day, or a bad life, is going to love David Fraiser and David Lee’s “Hurtin,’” a bluesy tune for those days when life has you down to your last straw and ready to say, “mercy.” The song “[I Wouldn’t Go There] If I Were You” is a fun, reminder song, for all you cowboys who just can’t stay away from the “devil wearing that perfume,” with the warning, “Don’t you know you’re going to get broke right into? I wouldn’t go there if I were you.”
“Holes” is honestly the best song ever recorded by Johnson. This song, about personal disappointments and redemption, is not only a richly written song, penned by Johnson and Jeffery Steele, but it is also a beautiful showcase of Johnson’s vocal ability as well. It is gripping, genuine and sure to be a fan favorite.
With “Give A Cowboy A Kiss,” Johnson and Dan Couch have captured and explained the inner spirit of all the true cowboys out there when it comes to love and the way they show it. Every outlaw at heart is going to love the bluesy, “Never Go Home Again,” a tale of cowboy Robin Hoods written by Johnson, Willmon and Chris Hennessee. The album also features the sweetest Bonus Track of the gospel hymn, “In The Garden,” recorded in Loving Memory of Harold “Hootie” Lawrence, featuring Cody’s parents, Carl and Sheila Johnson.
Cody Johnson is one of the most dynamic performers on the music scene today and has been labeled by many as “One to Watch.” His 2011 album, Different Day, was also produced by Trent Willmon. Of the working with Willmon, Johnson has stated, “Trent is like an older version of me. We think a lot a like. And he’s extremely talented as a writer, producer and musician.”
