When 1997 was dying, a group of three Norwegian musicians André Jensen (Vocals, pianoand acoustic guitar), Kim A. Lieberknecht (Drums & Moog) and Ronny Borge Johansen (Keyboards) decide to form KVAZAR with the purpose of creating a project that blends the influences and tastes of the three members.
In the same 1997 they release their first Demo with Christian Thorp playing the bass , who will leave and rejoin them after a couple of years, some of this material would be included in their first album, this demo was released by Kvarts Records in a very limited quantity, they release a second one in 1998.
During the next two years they start to work in their debut CD and with a new lineup that includes Alex Knøsmoen, Endre Tønnesen and Rune Olsen they go to Strype Audio in Oslo to give the final touches to their eponymous debut, which is released in 2001 by Musea Records.
"Kvazar" is an excellent CD which combines the spirit of the reborn Scandinavian Symphonic movement started by ANGLAGARD, ANEKDOTEN , LANDBERK and SINKADUS, combining this unique atmosphere with King Crimson and Genesis influences, all the members go clearly in the same direction and they work perfectly together, even Camilla Erlandsen who does a guest appearance playing the cello is absolutely brilliant, very good material that I had the luck to listen recently.
But they didn't stood still, after the promotional tour they start to work in their second CD with Christian Torp who rejoined the band and John Erik.
Despite they had already enough material to advance the second release, it takes more time than expected and only in 2005 "A Giant's Lullaby" sees the light with an almost complete new lineup in which only Andre, Kim and Christian remain from the original band but this time they include a female guest vocalist named Trude Bergli.
Unlike "Kvazar", "A Giant's Lullaby" is a much more versatile album they move from Scandinavian Symphonic to a beautiful blend of styles and sounds that combine their original atmosphere with Fusion with a clear Rock edge.
A very promising band that has evolved with the pass of years, we only have to wait and see if they keep releasing new material, in the meanwhile we must hope they won't make us wait another five years for their next album.
