Post Description

Op Verzoek.

Based strongly in traditional roots music with their own flavour of rock n roll, country and folk. Influenced by Gram Parsons, The Band and Bob Dylan.

Formed in the summer of 2005 with the intention of putting country-rock smiles on the faces of Saskatoon music fans, The Deep Dark Woods began shaping their sound, drawing on influences such as Gram Parsons, Pink Floyd and The Band. From upbeat murder songs, to eerie gospel numbers, with strong folk roots, their growing sets of original material are as contrasting as the band's four songwriters.

Although their studio sound includes mandolin, dobro and pedal steel, their live show consists primarily of two electric guitars (Ryan Boldt, Burke Barlow), bass (C.S. Mason), and drums (Lucas Goetz) as well as mics for all to back up Ryan's soul-filled leads. They have had the opportunity to share the stage with such artists as Steve Earle, The Sadies, Utah Phillips, Magnolia Electric Co. and The Stills.

The group has completed two recordings thus far, a 6 song demo and a self-titled 10 song album (released in August '06) with a second album of original material is already in the works. Their self-titled release, recorded live off the floor, entirely on analog tape captures the band's true live sound. Fewer takes and minimal production both help contribute to the raw and energetic feel of the record. They are currently working on their second full-length, which is scheduled for a fall 2007 release.

Although the band's emphasis has always been on writing and performing original material, they fill out their sets with a number of traditional songs as well as a constantly changing repertoire of crowd pleasing covers. As they play to growing captive audiences, it won't be long until you get lost in The Deep Dark Woods.
