Michael Juan Nunez is a singer, guitarist, songwriter, from South Louisiana whose music taps into the heart of American southern culture. It’s fresh, and urgent, yet unmistakably sprouting from very deep roots. His music paints pictures of life, as seen through the eyes of southern Louisiana. His guitar playing is raw and passionate…moaning, screaming, singing, and driving modern day melodies, with echoes of long lost dancehalls.

Michael has played with many groups, most notably Zachary Richard (with whom he toured the US, Canada, and France),Roddie Romero and the HubCity AllStars (with whom he was part of the Grammy Nominated CD “The La Louisianne Sessions”), Mr. Harry Hypolite ’s band (The late great guitarist for Mr. Clifton Chenier), as well as his own group, The RiverBabys. Along the way, he has worked with many other artists from time to time, including the great Chess Records pianist Mr. Henry Gray (who worked with Howlin' Wolf, Elmore James, Jimmy Reed, and many many more), as well as New Orleans icon Dr. John.

Nunez's first experience as a band leader began with the funk/blues/rock trio The RiverBabys (Nunez, along with, Jeff Lewis on drums, and Chad Willis on bass) They toured the Gulf South making a name for themselves on the blues circuit. They competed in the IBC in Memphis, TN in 2001 and made it to the finals, where they were disqualified for playing over their time limit…the band was rockin’, the crowd was rockin’, there seemed to be no reason to stop!!! It was the opinion of many attendees, as well as some judges (which included Alligator records founder Bruce Iglauer) , as well as Memphis news papers, that had it not been for the ‘error in judgment, of playing to long’ they would have won the competition. Never the less, the band made new friends, and fans.

Michael Juan Nunez has played numerous festivals, to excited crowds, including, The King Biscuit Blues Festival in Helena, Arkansas, The Harvest Jazz and Blues Festival in Fredericton, New Brunswick, Festival International in Lafayette, Louisiana, The Harvest Moon Blues Festival in Atlanta, Georgia, The New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival, Festivals Acadian, as a performer, and at times giving clinics as well.

Michael has opened for and performed with the likes of Sonny Landreth, Eric Johnson, Jimmy Vaughn, Dr. John, John Mooney, Kenny Wayne Sheppard, Corey Harris, C.C Adcock, Eric Burden, Taj Mahal, Tab Benoit, Anders Osborne, Eric Burden, Indigenoius and many, many others. He also has been tapped as a studio musican recording with Doug Kershaw, Dr. John, Ani Defranco, Hunter Hayes, Chubby Carrier, Roddie Romero, Drew Landry, Martha Scanlan, Dege Legg, Sam Rey...and many, many, more.

His music has also been featured in the hit HBO series“True Blood", The LifeTime Network holiday movie "Christmas On The Bayou", as well as being a featured studio musician on numerous session for other artists.
Along with C.C. Adcock Michael also wrote and recorded the theme song to the Amazon series pilot "Cocked".

Along the way he's released 3 solo records for ParishLine Records. His debut album "Michael Juan Nunez" is an acoustic based album. After it's release Michael won the "Best Emerging Blues Artist" at the annual "OffBeat Awards" put on by OffBeat magazine in New Orleans. This record also brought him a bit of national attention, and he started getting requests to play around the country. The song 'Balance' from that album actuall hit the blues charts in the Netherlands.
Michael again teamed up with producer A.J. Dauphin who produced his debut album. What started off to be a follow up acoustic record, soon began growing into an ecletic mix of acoustic, and electric roots based music. They brought in several of Michael Juan's friends, and band mates, including Cajun music icon D.L. Menard, former Clifton Chienier guitarist (and an incredible bluesman in his own right) Mr. Harry Hypolite, young cajun hotshots, accorianist Roddie Romero, and pianist/ B3 player Eric Adcock, drummer 'Cruz Fruge' (from the band Evangiline), and many others...(including a few tracks that were cut with what would become the band 'The American Electric' Chad Willis, and Clint Redwing). The album 'About To Snap' came out in 2005 and immediately began getting rave reviews from critics. It contains much of Michael's best known material, and went on to win several awards.
In 2008 Michael released 'The American Electric' an album he produced and played most of the instruments on. Although he still brought in friends on a few tracks including his long time bandmate Chad Willis, as well as C.C. Adcock, and engineer extraordinaire Mike Napolatono. This would be MJN's most eclectic album to date...blues/rock/zydeco/punk/pop/jazz...not sure what to call it. Well as the title suggests, it's electric American music. While playing to support the record Michael put together a band and named it after the record..."The American Electric". Over time, and many nights together, the band became more than just a group of sidemen playing Michael's music. Between 2010-2011, they began jamming on new material. Over that time MJN filled up a notebook full of lyrics. By fall of 2011 it was time to get those songs out of the notebook and on to tape (well I guess I should say harddrive).

MJN teamed up with A.J. Dauphin (co-producer of his self titled debut release, and his second release ‘About To Snap’), and Grammy award winning engineer Tony Daigle...along with his new band 'The American Electric' (Clint 'Chief' Redwing on drums, and long time collaborator Chad Willis on bass) to record "My Little Train Wreck". A brand new album of oringinal music. The album was recorded 'live' in the studio (Vocals, and overdub parts were later added, for a bit of spice) over 3 days at Tony Daigle's studio in Lafayette, LA. The record captured the raw energy of the band, pounding out electrified/ swampy/ bluesy/ funky/ ROCK-N-ROLL !!! All with big fat slide guitar tones, (with a cameo by MJN's mentor Sonny Landreth, on the album's title track.), thumping bass, and huge 'groove you into the ground' drums. The featured part however, is MJN's songwriting. Listening, one can't help but smile, and start moving to the vibe.

After the release of "My Little Train Wreck" in 2012, Michael Juan, ever restless was already writing again. By the fall of 2012 he teamed up yet again with A.J. Dauphin and began cutting demos for what would become the new album "The Fire Inside". Between 2012 and the summer of 2014 MJN wrote, and recorded countless demos. The best of the songs were chosen by the team, and production of the album began in August of 2014. Again recording the basic tracks took place at Tony Daigle's studio 'Eletricomo Land' in Lafayette, LA. This time however it wasn't a 3 day period of live jamming. instead the team brought in several different musicians for different songs. some of the best of the best the area had to offer. Over the next year the team crafted 12 of the over 30 songs originally brought in, into "The Fire Inside".
