 This is Canadian Fearing’s sixth solo album, and although the previous five have all been well respected and ‘solid’ albums, this is the one where everything has come together – the songwriting and musicianship are of the highest order, and ‘That’s How I Walk’ is an exceptional album by any standards.
 Although best described as a contemporary singer/songwriter, he draws his influences from many genres, from simple guitar and strings on ‘When My Baby Calls My Name’, through to the in your face swagger of ‘On the Great Divide’, this is certainly a musically intelligent and varied disc.
 He’s an impressive and evocative writer; the lyrics are both edgy and streetwise, but full of depth and imagery, it’s easy to draw comparisons with his friend Richard Thompson, as they have much in common in their writing style.
 Well respected as one of the finest guitarists around, it’s refreshing that his own playing doesn’t dominate proceedings, the disc is full of rich and varied instrumentation with excellent use of guitars, organ and strings, as well as backing vocals from guests such as Shawn Colvin and Joy Lynn White.
 Of the 14 tracks you could easily make a case for any one of at least 10 of them to be the pick of the bunch, but ‘Rave on Captain’, ‘The Finest Kind’ and ‘A Town Called Jesus’ are truly exceptional pieces that cover the range of styles featured on the album.
‘That’s How I Walk’ is a towering piece of work, and one of the finest and most interesting singer/songwriter discs around – not to be missed.
