Nightwish is een Finse metalband, gevormd in juli 1996 te Kitee (Finland). Oprichter Tuomas Holopainen gaf in een interview aan dat Nightwish "symfonische heavy metal" maakt en geen "gothic metal", zoals vaak wordt gedacht. Nightwish wordt echter nog steeds vaak tot gothic metal gerekend.
