There’s a certain mythology that surrounds The Wet Secrets, one that goes something like this: a few friends drunkenly throw together a band on the spur of the moment and record an amazing album in just a week’s time. It’s a good story, every word of it true, and it tears to shreds the wisdom passed on at musicians’ workshops about careful preparation and hard work. The idea that fear, chaos and alcohol can result in greatness is a matter of some anguish to those who appoint themselves music industry mavens, but it also cloaks the talent hidden in that mythos. Throw out the booze and you have The Wet Secrets’ third album, their second attempt at a third album actually, one that keeps with the same good-times vibe as their 2005 recorded-on-a-dare debut (A Whale of a Cow) and the 2007 followup (Rock Fantasy), even as it dismantles it. The party is still happening.
