ITV4 are to broadcast a documentary profiling the career of one of football’s most charismatic figures – Jose Mourinho.

Mourinho, commonly known as ‘The Special One’ is regarded by many players, coaches, and critics as one of the best football coaches of all time. He lead Real Madrid to their first top-flight La Liga title in four years last season and successfully broke Barcelona’s stranglehold over the game in Spain. He has won a total of 21 major trophies following success at former clubs Porto, Chelsea & Inter Milan to become his own sporting phenomenon.

In the last ten years Mourinho’s managerial record has been incomparable with a little controversy along the way. As Jose approaches his 50th birthday, this new documentary from ITV Sport asks what makes the man tick and examines the methods and the mindset, the contradictions and the complexity of the man.

Starring Mourinho himself, and previously unseen archive and interviews, Mourinho traces the special one’s decade of dominance and features a rare, in-depth interview with Sir Alex Ferguson – the man Jose calls ‘The Boss’.

Mourinho’s managerial proteges Steve Clarke and Andre Villas Boas analyse how their former boss changed the game in Portugal and England and reveal the truth about the real Jose they know away from the cameras. Further poignant insight comes from the late Sir Bobby Robson – Mourinho’s mentor – and there are candid contributions from Inter Milan President Massimo Moratti and former Arsenal, Inter and France legend Patrick Vieira.

The programme will also examine Mourinho’s biggest challenge to date – to try to deliver the Champions League to Real Madrid after a ten year wait.
