Beautiful and Twisted [BR2DVD5.1] - [2015] - [GBB-Post]

Let niet op de grote betreft hoge kwalitijd MKV ( B-Ray Kwaliteit ) die is omgezet naar DVD5. Gedaan met ConvertX2DVD van het orginele bestand van bijna 5 GB bleef dus dit over!

Rob Lowe currently can be seen about 4,000 times a day on DirecTV in a series of promotional spots that humorously declare DirecTV superior to cable.

Watch any of those spots instead of Lowe's new movie, "Beautiful & Twisted," and you will have saved about 90 minutes of your life while enjoying superior entertainment.

"Beautiful & Twisted" dramatizes the relationship of Ben Novack Jr. (Lowe), heir to the Fontainebleau Hotel fortune, and Narcy (Paz Vega), a stripper to whom he is drawn with the force of the Indonesian tsunami.

It's a perfect match. He loves frequent kinky sex and she loves money, both of which the other provides in unlimited quantities.

The game stops being fun about the time Ben is battered to death. His mother Bernice thinks something fishy is afoot with Narcy, and things don't go so well for Bernice after that, either.

LIFETIME
Candice Bergen in 'Beautiful & Twisted'
Candice Bergen plays Bernice. She gets a pass. She will always get a pass, because of "Murphy Brown." But she has no more luck with the material than either Lowe or Vega.

The whole thing feels awkward, including the way Ben provides running commentary on all the action in hindsight, after he's already dead.

Maybe he thought being dead would get him out of the rest of the movie. No such luck.Last night's Lifetime movie Beautiful & Twisted starred Rob Lowe in the true story of Ben Novack, the heir to the Fountainbleau Hotel in Miami Beach, whose wife Narcy (Paz Vega) was convicted of his and his mother's (Candice Bergen) 2009 murders. "Based on a true story" productions tend to make me cringe, but in this case the movie actually lived up to its title. And when I say it was "beautiful" I don't mean it gave me all the feels. I mean it looked really good.

The movie had a higher production value than a lot of the network's output, so we got to ogle stylish clothes and artsy cinematography. It also held itself to a higher standard of storytelling. This movie knew what it wanted to be and didn't hold back. The tone was darkly comic, and the characters were eccentric, to say the least. It took a confident approach to the style and didn't waver. I'll admit that I cringed when the movie started and I discovered it was being narrated by Ben Novack postmortem. But I eventually decided it fit with the movie's wild nature.

It definitely helped that there were some actually capable actors involved, although more than once I thought Rob Lowe seemed a little too much like Chris Traeger with sunglasses on. That might be my own personal issue, though. I have a tendency to associate actors with their most famous (or at least most recent) personas, and it's something I'm working on. Lit'rally.

While the "beautiful" part of the title was covered in the visuals and the consistent tone, the "twisted" part came in through the actual plot. I mean, this is a movie about murder, after all. And some pretty gruesome murders at that. Lifetime doesn't hold back in its portrayal of the violence (so much blood, so many mangled faces, so much freaking out from me on my couch), just like I said it doesn't hold back on the tone. It also matches the level of violence to the level of sex. Ben and Narcy meet when she's working as a stripper, and short of actually seeing the goods, the movie certainly gives us the full experience. #AssAssAss

All in all, I think this is how Lifetime should be approaching true story movies - as actual movies, with tones and stories and characters, not as a rough timeline of events that are only kinda sorta connected.

Those of us considering DirecTV - or at least the ads - conversely, can see shy Rob Lowe, musclehead Rob Lowe and several other amusing Rob Lowes who have no connection whatever to this movie. That's an easy call.
