Post Description

Philip Glass (Baltimore, 31 januari 1937) is een Amerikaans componist. Zijn muziek valt onder Minimal music, hoewel hij zelf de term theatermuziek gebruikt.

Solo Piano (1989) is an album of piano music composed and performed by Philip Glass. It was produced by Kurt Munkacsi.

The track "Metamorphosis Two", formed the basis of one of the main musical themes in the film The Hours. It is also the song that the American rock band Pearl Jam uses as their introduction music to concerts. "Metamorphosis Five" is played in an episode of Battlestar Galactica by Kara "Starbuck" Thrace, who claims it is her father playing.

The title of five of the seven tracks, "Metamorphosis", refers to and was inspired by the 1915 short story The Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka.

The title of the last composition is a reference to Allen Ginsberg's poem Wichita Vortex Sutra, and was composed, in collaboration with Ginsberg, for both a reading and recording of the poem.
