Post Description

Production guru Tyler Coffin takes you on a journey into the world of Electronic Music! Designed for the EM newcomer, this series gets your feet wet with many of today’s popular electronic music genres, including sound design tips, production insights, as well as history to base your EM foundations on.

Tyler starts off by discussing the ideas behind the series, as well as how you’ll go about exploring the various styles of electronic music together. You’ll then create a “base song” that you’ll later morph into the various genres covered in the series, so it’s easy to understand the differences between them.

First up, Tyler goes way back and looks at the Classic Electronic styles of the 70s and 80s, including their staple sounds and production tricks. Next, the always popular House music genre is discussed and shown, including some different variations found within the genre.

Techno and Trance music are next, and you’ll learn about what makes these genres stand out on their own, followed by Modern Aggressive EDM and its hard hitting elements.

Tyler then looks at Hip Hop influenced EDM, such as Trap, and how it has roots in Hip Hop and how it has spread to other electronic and rap genres as well.

Wrapping it up, Tyler goes over ways to integrate multiple genre styles so you can blend the different electronic forms together and make your own unique mixture.

See the individual tutorial descriptions for more info. If you’re new to Electronic Music or just want to look at the elements that make EM genres different from each other, pull up a seat and watch “Exploring Electronic Music” today!
