Saxon - Live Legends
This is a Saxon DVD issued by the only rock magazine that's really worth reading and that's pretty much "Classic Rock". This a show in Nottingham, from about 1989 when Saxon were celebrating their 10th Anniversary as a band by playing many of the headbanging gems which have made one premium Heavy Metal Bands of Britain, this was issued on video and released as a live album at the time I believe. Biff Byford plays to the crowd as ever, probably the best performer that is out there today, even outdoing one Steven Tyler and David Lee Roth.
The regal theme opens up the show which gives way to the onslaught of "Heavy Metal Thunder", followed by "Rock and Roll Gypsy". The strong arm assault from the boards includes the defiant "And the Bands Played On", the soarng "Twenty Thousand Feet", "Motor Cycle Man", "747 (Strangers in the Night)", '79s "Frozen Rainbow", "Princess of the Night", "Wheels of Steel", "Denim & Leather", and the curtain call action of "Back on the Streets".
While Saxon will never be known for turning-out popular hits, the group is a thundering act from the stage. With a wealth of material to draw from, vocalist Peter "Biff" Byford and company filled out the show with near ninety minutes of ground pounding, biker metal.
