Tangerine Dream
Limited World Tour Edition 1997

This is a numbered limited edition of 5000, released to coincide with TD's 1997 live dates. When I was originally shown this release some months ago I was told it would only be available at the concerts hence would perhaps be difficult to get hold of. The first thing you notice about this release is the striking design of the CD itself. The actual CD playing area is akin to a 3" single, but it is a full 5" size with the outer area transparent except for title graphics. The addition of the TDi logo overlaying the middle section actually gives it the appearance of a shaped CD - very unusual and very effective. Must admit I probably would have bought this just for curiosity value, but the titles of the tracks look inviting too which should seal its popularity. The opening pair of tracks are two mixes of 'Maedchen on the Stairs'. TD followers will immediately pick up on the 'Das Mädchen auf der Treppe' similarity and the Froese/ Franke/Schmoelling credit confirms that they are remixes of 'White Eagle'. A classic track by any standards, and though I've yet to hear any remix which matches the original these are decent outings with the usual grooves overlaying the original structure. The two mixes are titled 'Sunset Radio Mix' and 'Sunrise Club Mix' and to be truthful they are very similar to the point where I really can't offer any distinction worthy of note. The third track is called 'Order of the Ginger Gild' and is a bubbly, superficial hotch potch which is OK of sorts, though the wailing samples do stretch the bounds of acceptability. Listening to this does make you realise why TD are starting to revisit past triumphs. Overall though this is a desirable item which I can't imagine anyone being disappointed with, if only for the limited nature and unusual presentation.
