The traditional R-Type shooting gameplay system is back in full force, and with some fresh new features as well. Your first power-up equips your ship with a support craft that can be used in a variety of ways. A single button press makes the support craft dock with either your ships front or back where it acts as a shield against enemy attacks and also launches out laser blasts of its own. By having the support craft collide with things, you make it build up a charge which eventually turns into a devastating bomb. You start off with just three selectable ships, each with different weapons and power-ups, with new ships being unlocked as you progress.
