Steve Hughes was born in 1975 In Suburban West London. At the age of 13 he showed a talent for drumming and encouraged by his father he took up studying and playing the drums. Steve's father Trevor was also a drummer in his early youth and coached steve into the old school jazz style of the 30's and 40's.
 
"Many hours were spent practicing. Sometimes I'd miss school to play drums all day at home. I can remember My dad putting a thick bath towel over the snare drum and I'd sit for hours knocking out rolls and paradiddles with these extra thick drum sticks!" (The reason for the towel was partly to prevent the neighbours from being driven totally mad with the noise.)
 
In 1992 Steve went on to study at London college of music. Dropped out after a year in favour of the Rock 'n Roll Life style.

NATIONAL YOUTH JAZZ ORCHESTRA - Joined in 1992 - 4 months
 
MARYEN CAIRNS - Joined in 1993 - 2 years.

LINUS - Joined in 1994 - 3 years.
Gigged and toured UK and U.S
 
VINES OF EDEN - Joined in 1995 - 2 Months.
Didn't last more than about  3 rehearsals!
 
THE ENID - Joined in 1994 - 4 Years
Gigged and toured extensively. Mostly  around U.K
Belgium, Holland. Played on two albums.
 
ANGSTROM - Joined in 1997 - 1 year.
Played one gig and one live album.
 
BALANCE - Joined in 1997 - 1 year
Prog Rock Covers band.
 
THE SERIOUS HAT BAND - Joined in 1998 - 3 Years
Full-time Function band. Gigged extensively.
 
 
THE SPIRIT OF RUSH - Joined in 2002 - 1 year
Rush Tribute band. About 12 gigs.
 
HENRY SMITH'S COUNTRY DREAMS - Joined in 2003 - 1 Year
Traditional Country band. Gigged extensively around the U.K
 
KINO - Joined in 2004 - 2 months.
Played two gigs. One in Holland and one in Germany.
 
WHIMWISE - Joined in 2006 - 1 year.  Arty progressive band with guitarist Nick May, Fellow Band mate from The Enid.
 
MERETTO - Joined in 2007 - 5 Years
Punky prog rock. Gigged extensively around London.
Played on two albums.
