Post Description

Aleyce Simmonds’ new album has a fabulously positive title, and the first single is the title track. Country music is notorious for producing sad songs…..usually autobiographical. I am a lover of sad songs….this album is full of contemplative sad and and deep songs. The first track is probably the only “up” song. That doesn’t mean that you will be searching for the brandy or gin bottle and a pack of cigarettes by the end of it. Aleyce is this tiny little sweetie pie who has this tremendously powerful voice. The production on this album is stupendous. It is so slick and polished that the music just slides through your mp3. Sadly, I don’t have the writing credits on this silly old Itunes era of downloading, but my impatience got the better of me and I had to grab a quick download. I love cover notes and credits, but that is just me. I know from talking to legend, Karl Broadie, that he helped with one of the songs, and Aleyce herself, mentioned that my favourite Australian Country Music songwriter, Mike Carr and one of my new favourites, Lachlan Bryan helped out a bit with some others. Simon Johnson, two of the most magical words in Australian Country Music, put a lot of this together, but Aleyce is in every song. The woman wears her heart on her sleeve, and it has obviously been broken, bashed and repaired (in part). Aleyce puts her battered heart and soul into every song. I know how much blood, sweat and tears went into this album, as I have talked to her all the way through it. As far as I am concerned, if you do something in this life, you put everything into it or nothing at all. I think that Aleyce has made that part of her mantra too.
