De Britten ontdekken dat de spaceshuttle is verdwenen en moeten aan de VS hun verontschuldigingen betuigen. Ze laten het er echter niet bij zitten en James Bond wordt op de zaak gezet. Hij begint zijn onderzoek bij Drax Industries die de Moonraker ontwerpt. Al snel blijkt dat hij niet welkom is en Bond moet koste wat het kost ontdekken wat Hugo Drax te maken heeft met een onbekend ruimteproject en een zeer giftige uitgestorven orchidee.
